The highly anticipated SIM2 driver range from TaylorMade is here. Following on from some amazing performances in the professional and the amateur game with the SIM range, TaylorMade has, as it puts it, taken a motor racing approach in the way it has stripped back the previous model and tried to make improvements to every area of the clubhead. What has resulted is a removal of weight in all the key areas of the clubhead as well as milling behind the face to improve swing and ball speed in all the drivers, with slight variations between the SIM2, the SIM2 Max and the SIM2 D-type.
The SIM2 Max follows on from where the SIM Max driver left off. With a slightly larger face area, higher MOI and 24g backweight, this driver is more forgiving than the SIM2 but with great ball speed potential. Looking from the top down the clubs look almost identical and sound great off the face. The stock shafts in this head, the Ventus Blue and the KuroKage Silver, are fantastic performing shafts and being a little lighter might reflect the golfer this driver might be aimed at. However, there are some great additional custom options available should you wish to go for a heavier, lower launching shaft.
Who is the Sim 2 Max Driver For?
Whilst the above suggests the driver is best suited for a high single figure to 20s handicap golfer, it is most certainly not set in stone. Golfers with faster swing speeds but are more bothered about fairway finding might really enjoy the forgiveness of this driver as well, and no doubt you’ll see this model on tour in the same way we saw M4, M6 and the SIM Max. As always, selecting golf equipment is a highly personal choice so contact one of our JamGolf PGA professionals should you require any advice.
