TaylorMade P790 Irons - 2021
If it ain't broke, make it better. Taylormade have revamped and relaunched the incredibly popular P790 range, making this the third iteration of this beloved, bestselling, and globally renowned forged iron. The P790, first launched in 2017, redefined the player's distance iron, incorporating a sleek blade design full to the brim with game-changing tech. It quickly became one of the franchise’s best selling irons, and the new 2021 P790 irons are sure to find a home in many golfer’s bags.
Subtle changes to the design, weighting and finish of this popular iron have created a range of clubs that mid-double-digit handicappers can use comfortably and confidently, opening the door to the elegant P range that's perfect for aspirational players who know their game but want to improve.
Speedfoam Air
The 3rd generation P range has been engineered with a new Speedfoam variant, called Speedfoam Air: a repurposed, lighter version of the urethane that was present inside the original forged hollow body P790. The material is 69% lighter than previous versions, so it still retains ultimate face flexibility and premium sound and feel, whilst the 3.5g of saved weight has been distributed to create a more forgiving swing.
Thin Wall Construction, Tungsten Toe and reformed steel L-face
A critical improvement to the P790 is in the thinner 8620 carbon steel construction, which allows for a lower CG placement by shaving up to 37.5% of bulk from strategic areas on the head.
To compliment that, engineers have thinned out the body and managed to squeeze in 31g of tungsten into the toe, improving swing stability and helping provide a little more forgiveness on the fairway. Taylormade’s team did research with thousands of golfers, mapping their strike zones and creating a face that is more forgiving for shots on the high-toe and low-heel, and across the most common strike areas.
These new and improved club head elements have been paired with a responsive 1.65mm forged 4140 steel L-Face, for optimal launch and speed through your swing.
THRU-SLOT SPEED POCKET™
Ultimate face flexibility and low strike consistency are guaranteed with the P790’s unique Thru-Slot Speed Pocket “floating face” - an essential element of the club that makes it perfect for both low- and mid-handicap players.
A resigned sweet spot
Coupled with the speed pocket is the redesigned, intelligent sweet spot, which has been moved slightly lower down the face, creating up to 60% more spring and speed.
