The Ping G400 and G410 were great looking and amazing performing drivers so were always going to be a tough act to follow, but the G425 driver range picks up where the other drivers left off. Ping, true to form, has not launched a loud and flashy driver as part of a wider marketing campaign, but has instead created an amazing looking, high performance product and the LST driver could be a great addition to the bags of golfers.

Why is the Ping G425 LST Driver So Good?

As widely mentioned, the G425 range, but in particular the LST driver, is an amazing looking golf club. The wonderfully named Tubulators not only help to add speed but aid alignment and the slightly smaller, pear-shaped head looks great. The black/grey colour scheme is also truly timeless. The ‘LS’ part stands for low spin and through the movement of weight as well as an aerodynamic head design Ping has created a low spinning driver that really optimises speed and ball flight.

As with all the other drivers in the Ping G425 range, there are a great selection of after- market shafts, including the Tensei Orange and the Aldila Rogue, which are available in extra stiff for the real speed merchants. This is well complemented by the Arccos caddie system which is fitted into the traditional colour-coded Ping grips. This system syncs with your smartphone to help you keep stats and is a great addition as part of a general strategy to improve your game. Whereas the Max model is a high MOI fairway finder, this driver is low spin. What this means in real terms is that if you’re hitting the ball out of the middle of the face with a faster, square clubface you’re going to see long drives with a piercing ball flight. However, you are going to see wayward shots with off centre hits. So, as a fitter and coach, I would seriously consider this when choosing your Ping driver.
