Epic ball speeds start with the new A.I.-designed Jailbreak Speed Frame. Previous Jailbreak architectures stiffened the body in the vertical direction. By applying Artificial Intelligence, this new structure is designed to enhance horizontal and torsional stability to promote an increase in ball speeds across the face.

The A.I.-designed Flash Face is specifically engineered to optimize the Jailbreak Speed Frame, promoting fast speeds across a more expansive area. Each face and each head geometry are uniquely enhanced in Epic Speed, and the super strength titanium promotes maximum speed, forgiveness and spin robustness.

The Fastest Epic Driver Head

The advanced aerodynamic head construction promotes lower drag for higher head speed. The taller ribbon and flatter crown are engineered for a precise and more aerodynamic shape that can help golfers generate more speed from their swing.

Increased Forgiveness

The proprietary Triaxial carbon covers a larger portion of the crown and toe, leading to weight savings of over 16 grams vs. a titanium crown. Callaway engineers have redistributed that saved weight to enhance forgiveness versus previous MAVRIK designs. An additional Triaxial carbon toe patch adds draw bias while saving weight to promote a powerful shot shape.

Callaway Epic Speed Driver

When the first ‘Epic’ driver was released by Callaway there was a great amount of deserved hype and acclaim. For the first time in a number of years, Callaway had produced what was arguably the longest driver on the market and it was the must-have driver of 2017. The Epic family continued with the Epic Flash, designed with AI, which was a popular and well-used driver at all levels of the game.

The Epic Speed borrows a lot of the features of its two predecessors, namely the green and black colour scheme. But on a technical level, the mix of carbon and titanium to maximise clubhead speed as well as the Jailbreak technology is a very welcome re addition. The aforementioned Jailbreak technology (the two pillar looking objects behind the face) has been redesigned to promote ‘horizontal and torsional stability across the face.’ For those that don’t hold an engineering degree, this means very high ball speeds across the face especially when combined with the fastest, most aerodynamic head Callaway has ever produced.

Who is the Epic Speed Driver For?

A feature of this Callaway Epic range is that the head sizes are the same across the models, but owing to the crown of the club the Epic Speed is the most distinctive. This driver, with its mid launch and mid spin characteristics, as well as its incredible ball speeds, is likely to appeal to the widest range of golfers. Lofts are available in 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees and there are Callaway customs available. A consideration for better players might be that the slight draw bias might exacerbate a left miss, especially as there are no head alterations to combat this.
